This was a great groove to show up on classic R&B stations and make everyone scratch their head and ask “wait who the hell is that again?” And then the Guardians of the Galaxy decided to crank it up as they’re sing along in The Avengers– Infinity War movie.
Yes, the song perfectly fits the motif of Peter Quill’s mixtapes that remind him of his mother. But, the song also perfectly fit the motif of being just slightly musically smarter than the rest of your friends when you would pull out a deeper cut for a fun tune that most folks really only recognized from an old Staples commercial.
