Midnight in Harlem

~ So many layers ~

You can sing along to this one. You can hum along to the guitar riff underneath. You can hum or whistle along once the guitar solo kicks in. There are all sorts of layers for all sorts of ways in which you prefer to interact with your music and this song does an excellent job of all of them instead of just one of them.

Derek’s guitar playing has always been the highlight of this for most people, and Susan’s vocals are soulful and vulnerable. But the rest of the band laying on that chord sequence underneath Susan’s vocals in the verses is an eminently-memorable snippet of great music that you can find yourself humming in your head for the rest of the day whether it’s washing dishes or filling up your car or just hanging out on the back porch with a drink watching the sun go down.
