One of the lines in the song is him talking about not being a YouTube sensation, and yet that’s kind of what happened to them.

There’s actually a decent lyrical story in here about a kid trying to find his footing in the world with all of the underlying wisdom that’s been imparted on him by his family, and the relationships he has with people back in his hometown as he’s tried to make it big. And somehow it all fits into 3-1/2 minutes.

It’s well crafted, and well packaged, and well performed. It just didn’t make a particularly big dent in the wider consciousness, probably because it was marketed to 14-year-olds instead of 24-year-olds (despite a big ol’ f-bomb right up front), and teen sensation flashes in the pan are quickly enjoyed and discarded. It’ll be interesting to see what these guys come up with for a second act.
