~ Ditch the gimmicks, embrace the groove ~

Counting Blue Cars was the one that was all over the radio, but there was some minor airplay for another tune from this album called Charlie Brown’s Parents. It got picked up mostly for the novelty effect, and not because it was ever intended to be a radio single. Charlie Brown’s Parents had a much funkier groove to it, whereas this one was straight mellow chill. This is laying down on the hood of the car with a couple of drinks and watching the stars, or hanging out on a rock watching the waves crash over the bay.

The funky coda at the end is a nice change of pace for the fade out that doesn’t significantly interrupt the mellow groove, but the arpeggiated cords and the lingering bass notes really combine for an excellent late night tune

All week long we’re bringing you the “other” single from someone who was widely-regarded as a one-hit wonder because of how big the first hit was.
