~ The most Raleigh song out there ~
There certainly aren’t very many that reference the city, so there’s not a whole lot to choose from. This one really vaulted over the top when NC State started playing it at the end of halftime of their football games.
If you play it around Raleigh, everyone knows every word. If you play it anywhere else, people ask if it’s a cover of that Darius Rucker song (actually, other way around).
Folks trying to sound too smart at a party (looking at you Stugotz!) will try to tell you it’s a Bob Dylan song, but it was never a full Dylan tune. It was just a snippet from a movie that was never built out into an entire song until the boys from Old Crow Medicine Show got ahold of it.
